Indianapolis: A Glimpse of What’s Possible
We’ve been really encouraged by what we’re seeing so far with the Beyond The Bridge impact campaign. Communities are starting to challenge the status quo, come together in new ways, and commit to real solutions.
A great example is the city of Indianapolis.
This film couldn’t have come at a better time because we saw the film and we said, “This is the catalyst. This is what we need to get more people in the room to understand what we’re trying to achieve together.”
In 2024, Indianapolis hosted a Beyond The Bridge screening that brought together 1,000 people. It wasn’t just a big event, it was transformative. Mayor Joe Hogsett opened the night by committing to a Housing First approach and launching a leadership council to take this on.
Ten months later, that commitment turned into action.
The city launched a $50M+ three-phase Streets to Home Indy initiative – here’s a quick video recap about it:
Phase One is an $8.1M initiative to move 300-350 people directly off the streets and into housing with services. What stands out most is how it’s funded. This is a true local effort:
- $2.7M from the city
- $2.7M from a community foundation
- $2.7M from a coalition of philanthropy, business, and faith leaders
There is no federal funding for Phase One. Indianapolis is just a community coming together around a plan that made sense.
The big goal is to house 1,000+ people over time. The hard work now is implementation, but Indianapolis has already shown what’s possible when a community aligns.
We’re proud to have played a small part in this story, and it makes us greedy for more.
We’re seeing seeds like this start to take root in other communities too. If Indianapolis is any indication, there’s a real path forward to solve homelessness in any community of any size.
Can BEYOND THE BRIDGE come to my community?
Film licensing is available to organizations, elected officials, universities, churches, conferences, small groups, as well as for community impact screenings. Please fill out the Screening Request Form and we’ll get back to you shortly.
Be well,
Don and Tim

We believe the role of the filmmaker who is trying to present a solution to a problem is to actively help communities engage with the film in a way that really leads to some results. We discuss this and more on a new episode of the Common Ground Podcast by the National Low Income Housing Coalition.
