From Stigma To Solutions: Filmmakers join The Common Ground Podcast by NLIHC
We were honored to join the National Low Income Housing Coalition for Episode 2 of their podcast The Common Ground. We talked about the central part of our work – storytelling to create narrative change.
The episode, “From Stigma to Solutions: Inside Beyond The Bridge and How Media Can Change the Housing Conversation,” captures why we made Beyond The Bridge: A Solution To Homelessness and, more importantly, how we are using the film to bring real tangible change to communities.
Too often, homelessness is framed through stigma and blame, without showing the failed systems behind it or the solutions that are working.
We set out to tell a different story.
After spending 14 monts in 12 cities, we saw that progress happens when communities align around a shared plan rooted in housing with supportive services. That became the foundation of both the film and our impact campaign.
The role of the filmmaker who is trying to present a solution to the problem is to then go out and actively help communities engage with this content, engage with this film in a way that really leads to some results.
The reason we’re doing this campaign is simple: we believe communities can move farther and faster when people engage with the film together in a shared setting. The burning question coming from the audience is always:
What would it take for our community to look more like the communities we just saw in the film?
We’ve seen those conversations lead to real momentum – we discuss this and much more in the episode below.
We’re grateful to NLIHC and our host May Louis-Juste for a thoughtful conversation.
Can BEYOND THE BRIDGE come to my community?
Film licensing is available to organizations, elected officials, universities, churches, conferences, small groups, as well as for community impact screenings. Please fill out the Screening Request Form and we’ll get back to you shortly.

We join NLIHC Podcast

From a film screening to a $50M+ initiative
We’ve been really encouraged by what we’re seeing so far with the Beyond The Bridge impact campaign. Communities are starting to challenge the status quo, come together in new ways, and commit to real solutions. A great example is the city of Indianapolis.
